One of the things I value most about working across APAC is that it never allows you to think in simple terms.

APAC is not one market. It is many markets, each with its own pace, priorities, culture, regulatory environment, business expectations, and leadership realities.

What is true in Hong Kong may not be true in Singapore. What is shaping leadership in India may look very different from what is shaping leadership in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mainland China, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia or Indonesia. Across the region, organisations are navigating growth, transformation, succession, technology, geopolitics, workforce change, and evolving client expectations, often all at the same time.

That complexity is exactly why APAC needs a different leadership conversation.

Too often, leadership is discussed in broad global terms. We talk about transformation, resilience, AI, talent, culture, and growth as though they mean the same thing everywhere. But in this region, context matters enormously.

A leader who is successful in one market may need to adapt quickly in another. A succession strategy that works in one business environment may not translate easily across borders. A conversation about innovation may be shaped by regulation in one place, talent availability in another, and cultural expectations somewhere else entirely.

For executive search and leadership consulting professionals, this is what makes the work both challenging and rewarding.

Our role is not simply to understand leadership in theory. It is to understand leadership in context.

That means asking better questions.

  • What does growth require in this market?
  • What kind of leader can operate across cultures?
  • How do organisations balance global ambition with local relevance?
  • Where are the talent gaps emerging?
  • What leadership capabilities will matter most in the next three to five years?
  • How do we identify leaders who can build trust while navigating complexity?

These questions cannot be answered from one perspective alone.

They require conversation across markets, industries, functions, and generations of leadership. They require input from executive search professionals, leadership advisors, CEOs, CHROs, board members, technology leaders, and the many people helping organisations prepare for what comes next.

That is why professional community matters so much in APAC.

When we come together, we see more. We hear what others are experiencing in their markets. We compare what is changing, what is consistent, and what may be coming next. We build relationships that help us understand the region more fully and serve clients with greater perspective.

The future of leadership in APAC will not be shaped by one market, one industry, or one point of view. It will be shaped by the ability to bring many perspectives into the same conversation.

That is one of the reasons I am looking forward to the 2026 AESC Global Summit on Leadership in Hong Kong. It will be an important opportunity for our APAC community to come together, exchange ideas, and explore the leadership questions shaping the region and the world.

In a region as dynamic as APAC, leadership conversations need to be just as dynamic.

And I look forward to continuing them in Hong Kong.
