Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is a private club with a long, proud and prominent history and reputation. Known as one of the world's best stadium, the MCG provides high quality services and facilities to its members and all who visit the people's ground.

The MCG hosts up to 85 events per year, including AFL and cricket codes, as well as a range of special events and numerous conferences, making it a stadium that operates all year round, 24 hours/7 days a week.

Such iconic venues attract thousands of people and the attention of the world. It is therefore critical that everyone visiting the MCG is kept safe during their attendance. Global incidents have reinforced the need to continually examine procedures and, where appropriate, introduce additional security, safety and emergency management measures to continue to ensure the safety of all visitors to the MCG.

An opportunity has presented itself to continue to protect MCC members, visitors, staff, and contractors and ensure the MCG remains one of the safest sporting stadia in the world. The position, Director of Security, Safety and Precinct Operations will have oversight and management of all preventative security, safety and emergency response activities, ensuring these are in harmony with the broader precinct operations surrounding the MCG.  A key leadership role, this role will work with many stakeholders across the whole of the club, leading a team and ensuring they are fully equipped to deal with potential threats and emergencies within the MCG and the Yarra Park precinct.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Knowledge of emerging trends, technology and best practices within crowded places
  • Strong networks with key stakeholders and organisations’ (e.g. Government, ASIO, Federal Police, Victoria Police, Interpol, MFB, Ambulance Victoria, Vic Track, Metro Trains and Yarra Trams)
  • Sound judgement, planning, organisation and decision making
  • A collaborative, positive and credible leadership capability
  • Proven experience that is relevant to the breadth of this portfolio 

This is a leadership role requiring strategic oversight and operational management of emergency preparedness and response, security, and safety. Ideally, you will have an understanding of events and venue management, having led the security and safety functions of significant venue/s or crowded places. You will bring energy, collaboration and strong technical capability for this portfolio blended with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and work well with others.

The position calls for a balance of strategic vision and a willingness to engage in operational management with your team, third party service providers and law enforcement.
